How to borrow tools

1. First time: set your tool crib PIN

The tool crib custodian checks your school ID card and gives you a one-time setup code, such as K7QM-2XPA. It works once and expires after 7 days.

On the login page, choose set your PIN here. Type your school ID number, the setup code, and a new six-digit PIN twice. The PIN cannot be one digit repeated (000000), digits in order (123456), a repeated pattern (121212), or your ID number.

2. Borrow

Log in with your school ID number and your tool crib PIN. This is not the AISAT student portal: never type your portal password here. During your section's laboratory, the form already shows your session (for example Your session: AMT-2A): choose the tools, then press Submit. The tools are held for you until 6:00 PM today, when the tool crib closes.

Your session opens 20 minutes before your laboratory starts, so you can send your request while you wait. The custodian releases the tools from the laboratory's start time, not earlier.

The list is long: type part of a name in Find a tool, or tap a button under Jump to to go straight to a heading. Shop equipment (the machines and trainers) is listed so you can see whether it works; it is used in the shop and is not borrowed through ToolCrib.

No laboratory now? Request a session

For a make-up class, practice, or a project outside your laboratory time, the page says You have no laboratory session now. Fill in Request a session: the reason, and until when today. Then go to the tool crib counter and show your ID card. After the custodian approves it, log in again: your session is shown and you borrow as usual.

You can cancel a request while it waits. If it is declined, you see why at your next login, and you may send another. Requests are for today only, while the tool crib is open; one that nobody acted on ends when the crib closes.

3. At the counter

Show the receipt (or say its transaction number) and your school ID card. The custodian checks the card before releasing the tools.

4. Return the tools

Bring the tools back before the due time on the receipt. The custodian records each tool and its condition. You can see your borrowings under My borrowings after you log in.

Forgot your PIN?

Ask the custodian. After checking your ID card, they give you a new setup code. Until then they can make the request for you at the counter.

After 6:00 PM

The system does not take requests after the tool crib closes. Ask the custodian if you still need a tool.
